The Link 11.13.09: Steven Curtis Chapman, Young Rapping Conservatives, and Sarah Palin Populism

scc1. Steven Curtis Chapman has a beautiful new album out called Beauty Will Rise.  Buy the album.  Seriously.  Even if, like me, you rarely buy CCM stuff, you should buy this one.  It’s filled with sadness, truth, and hope.  I don’t know that I’ve heard anything quite like it.

Also, here’s a CNN interview with Chapman.  Praise God for how this man and the family he leads has responded to this tragedy.  [Update: glowing NYT review, a rarity, to say the least, with CCM titles]

2. Have you heard the Young Cons? Wow.  Newt Gingrich, move over…

3. I don’t necessarily subscribe to this line of thinking from The Weekly Standard, but I do find the current debate among conservatives about which public approach is best interesting.  Populism?  Reaganism?  Or what?

4. Charles Krauthammer thunders against the idea that the Fort Hood killer’s behavior can be explained by PTSD.  A blistering, and apt, column.

Here’s a quotation to ponder:

Nor was this the only incident. “The psychiatrist,” reported Zwerdling, “said that he was the kind of guy who the staff actually stood around in the hallway saying: Do you think he’s a terrorist, or is he just weird?”

Was anything done about this potential danger? Of course not. Who wants to be accused of Islamophobia and prejudice against a colleague’s religion?

Can I say something?  Don’t buy the cultural line.  Don’t suspend your common sense.  Don’t drop your instincts to protect yourself, your family, and your society.  Be wise and alert to threats like this, which in a PC society will naturally proliferate.

5. Allan Fisher of Crossway Books has a great post up on Tabletalk that outlines why Christians should be thankful for evangelical publishers.  I have huge appreciation for publishers like Crossway, Moody, and Broadman & Holman, to name just a few. (HT: Challies)

6. The Atlantic lists the top-25 books of the year. My heart is strangely warmed seeing all the history books on this list.

So many books…so little (you know the rest).

–Have a great weekend, all.
